BLACKSTONE WOMAN APPOINTED

Process questioned by veteran official

Nottoway Supervisors last Thursday appointed Monica Hazelwood-Frisby to represent District Five on the Social Services Board, but only after a ‘turf battle’ of sorts between Supervisors Sherman Vaughn and John Roark.

Roark, who serves District Two, announced that he had conferred with District Five Supervisor Lynn Shekleton and then reached-out to Mrs. Hazelwood to gauge her interest in the vacancy.

Roark then recommended that Mrs. Monica Hazelwood- Frisby from District Five in Blackstone be appointed.

Vaughn asked, “Why is District Two (Roark) appointing people from District Five?”

Supervisor Shekleton assured Vaughn, “Mr. Roark talked to me about his recommendation, and I agree.” Supervisor Shekleton then made the motion to appoint Mrs. Hazelwood-Frisby, Roark seconded, and the motion carried, 5-0.

In other news, Bill Collins was nominated by Supervisors to the Circuit Court for reappointment to the Nottoway Board of Zoning Appeals, 5-0.
