The Courier-Record editor is human and went out of his way to prove it last week. Several corrections:
1) Lindsey Turpin is Nottoway High School’s Head Varsity Volleyball Coach. Travis Andrews, who retired from teaching last year, is now Assistant Coach.
2) Lady Cougar volleyball senior, Avery Cliborne, was incorrectly listed in a write-up as Avery “Childress.” (Childress is the last name of teammate Addison Childress.)
3) The Mayor of Burkeville is The Honorable Gerald Smith — not Gerald “Ingram” as we reported in a story. (“Mayor Ingram,” however, did tell us he appreciated the surprise honor.)
4) With regard to the upcoming Circuit Court Clerk’s vacancy (Jane Brown is retiring Jan. 1st), the State Compensation Board sets salaries of Clerks and Sheriffs based on county populations — not officials’ years of service. (Thanks to a member of the legal community for pointing that out.)
5) Lastly, regarding last week’s story about a fight in the high school cafeteria, Division Supt. Dr. Marcia Martin contacted us and said via email, “An incident occurred at the end of lunch on Wednesday, October 22nd. Central Office Administrators were covering lunch duty as an appreciation for staff. Central office administrators and the AD controlled the situation. Unfortunately, the SRO (School Resource Officer) was not at the school, unable to be located, and did not assist with the situation. The School Principal, Reggie Wilson, assisted in the situation. The incident has been investigated, and appropriate action has been taken by school administration.”
And there’s one more: A Land Transfer in our July 9th edition incorrectly listed a buyer as Julie H. Parson. It is Julie Parsons (with an ‘s’), who purchased a home in the 200 block of Brunswick Avenue from Matthew J. Gilchrist for $270,000. “Parson” is what appeared on the courthouse print-out.
