Town seeks to spend less on mail

The Town of Blackstone spends about $16,000 annually on postage to mail monthly utility bills.

Councilman Jake Allman says the Town needs to explore more paperless options. “We spend an outrageous amount on postage,” he said during Council’s May 20th meeting, which coincided with the Ward C rep’s birthday. “We could save a little money, and it’s even better for the environment.”

Councilman Chris Page agreed that better Town software is needed to allow for ApplePay and other online methods. But he also said it’s important to make sure such systems are secure for customers so that their identities can’t be stolen by hackers.

Allman agreed. “I think that will most likely be the direction any modern software takes.”
