Big ‘News’ In 1976
One of the Courier-Record’s earliest April Fool’s front pages occurred back in 1976, with a big story about aliens landing at Fort Pickett, and a Bigfoot sighting along Ridge Road. Other stories that year included Town Council abolishing all taxes. Editor Doug Coleburn made the large “foot print” in the dirt.
A few years later, in 1982, another April Fool’s edition told the story of a lost World War II soldier who was found still alive and living in a remote area of the base.
