U. S. students are continuing to fall behind

According to the Digest of Education Statistics, the cost per pupil per year of an elementary and secondary school education in the 1969/70 school year was $6,135.

Using the Consumer Price Index (CPI), that figure was adjusted to 2014/15 dollars.

Forty-five years later, for the 2014-15 school year, that figure had risen to $14,013, or nearly 2.3 times the 1969-70 CPI-adjusted level.
