But some GOP state lawmakers get ‘religion’

Finally, some of our intransigent Republican legislators have had the “ah ha” moment and are now in favor of supporting Medicaid expansion.

Their epiphany was not born out of compassion, but of political survival. Had compassion been the motivator, Virginia would have had 400,000 more of her citizens covered long before now -- at very little cost to the Virginia taxpayer -- because the federal government would have footed most of the tab.

No, our Republican friends have no problem with the less fortunate not having health care so long as they, themselves, have it. Rather than altruism, political self-interest was the motivator.
