PALM SUNDAY...ON THE PAVEMENT

Church uses FM transmitter to hold worship in parking lot

COVID-19 cancelled the Blackstone community’s annual Palm Sunday service in Seay Park but an “unorthodox” worship was held this past Sunday morning that still brought people together without violating social distancing guidelines.

Soldiers of Mercy Motorcycle Ministry, which last December joined forces with the former Blackstone Christian Church, used a low wattage FM transmitter and held 10 a.m. services in the parking lot of Nottoway High School, where worshippers remained in their vehicles and listened on their radios -- 107.5 FM.

More than two dozen vehicles were counted as services began. Sound quality was clear with no static or interference. Mercy Outreach leader
