Nottoway murderer gets life sentence

TEARFUL TESTIMONY AT HEARING

The killer of an 82-year-old Nottoway County man was sentenced Monday in Circuit Court to life in prison plus an additional 33 years for what Judge Paul Cella called an “unusually cold murder.”

Defendant Kyle Bryant Wilmoth was 19 on the night of December 2, 2018 when he gunned down next door neighbor Leslie Davis Crews. The crime occurred on the front stoop of Crews’ home on Poplar Lawn Road off of Rt. 153. Wilmoth -- with help from an alleged accomplice, who faces trial next month -- dragged Mr. Crews’ body inside, washed-off the stoop with hot water, and stole several of Crews’ guns and approximately $2,600 in cash.
