‘I KNOW WHAT I SAW’
Says cougar crossed road in front of his tractor
For the second time in two months, a mountain lion sighting is being reported in Nottoway County.
“There’s no doubt in my mind,” says Darrell Lott. “I know what I saw.”
It was Friday afternoon, May 26th, at about 2:00 p.m. Lott, a 62-year-old Army retiree and lifelong outdoorsman, was on his tractor, driving up Deep Creek Road (Rt. 611) in the 2400 block near the home of Jim & Rita LaVelle. It was a bright, clear day, when movement on the left side of the road caught Lott’s attention.
“My first thought was that it was a deer, but a deer doesn’t have a three-foot-long tail. ‘This is not a deer,’” Lott recalled thinking to himself.
