‘I THOUGHT IT WAS A LOG’

Six-ft. gator is surprise on Carolina beach

A local family enjoying a walk on the beach came within 10 feet of an alligator that had swum ashore.

“I thought it was a log,” Kaitlyn Williams Meredith of rural Blackstone recalled.

The encounter occurred last Wednesday afternoon, May 20th, around 5:00 p.m. on Oak Island Beach, North Carolina -- about an hour south of Wilmington.

“I was just taking a stroll, trying to avoid the coronavirus,” Kaitlyn remarked on her Facebook page, “when Wyatt almost ran over him.”
