AROUND TOWN

As bad as the damage was Friday on South Main Street, I’m surprised Blackstone didn’t have more incidents like the one at the Wulff home. So glad no one got hurt. There were times Friday when those strong gusts -- coupled with the wet ground -- made being outside dangerous. We received just under two inches of rain Thursday night and then those winds howled Friday. Whew!

Friday’s strong gusts also swept away the UNC yard flag of one of Blackstone’s most loyal (and nicest) Tarheel basketball fans, Mrs. Sylvia Bradshaw of College Avenue. She was delighted Monday to see that her flag had been returned by Susan Nash, who discovered it Monday morning on 6th Street while walking. Unfortunately, it looks like UNC’s ability to win this season has ‘blown away’ for good. Sorry, Sylvia, I couldn’t resist! That OT loss to Duke on Saturday should be watched by every basketball player and coach. Never give up!
