During a campaign stop last Wednesday at The Brew House in Blackstone, hosted by the Nottoway GOP, U. S. Congressman Dave Brat (R-7th) met with Kenston Forest School students Ryan Davis, William Kreis, Geoffrey Tozzi, Aedan DiRienzo, and John Osborne. Congressman Brat, a former Economics professor at Ranolph- Macon College, yesterday (Tuesday) carried seven of nine Nottoway voting precincts plus the absentee balloting. But at 9:00 p.m. as this newspaper was going to press, the race was too close to call. Brat was leading district-wide, 112,700 (50.81%) to 106,220 (47.89%) over Democratic challenger Abigail Spanberger. Libertarian candidate Joseph Walton’s total at 9:00 p.m. was 2,739, or 1.23%. Brat was first elected to Congress in 2014, and his district began to include Nottoway County in 2016.
