CHIEF AL
Crewe’s new Police Chief retired from a department that had a roster of officers larger that the Town’s population.
That suits Alfredo “Al” Ferrer just fine.
The 55-year-old Cuban native, who moved to Miami at age 2 with his family, says he’s living out his dream of serving as a small town Chief of Police. Previously, Ferrer served 27 years with Miami-Dade County Police Department, where he rose up the ranks, retiring as a Major. That department was nearly 3,000 strong -- 700 more than Crewe’s 2,300 population.
“Chief Al” began his $60,000-a-year job in Crewe on Jan. 4th. He’s bought a house in the Prospect area of Prince Edward County and says he’s received a warm reception.
