COMING THROUGH

Surprise Appearance

Supervisor John Roark wasn’t supposed to attend Thursday’s Board meeting. Earlier in the day, he was hospitalized after suffering a right knee injury on a job site in Amelia and had informed colleagues he wouldn’t be able to make it. But at 7:40 p.m., with help from wife Dana, Supervisor Roark made quite an entrance -- navigating the aisle of the General District Courtroom on crutches and full leg brace on his right leg as Landfill Manager Gary Easter made a presentation on the benefits of having a County-owned landfill vs. private operation. Supervisor Roark donned a “Real Men Rock Pink” tee-shirt for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. He told colleagues that he’ll require surgery and that he hadn’t anticipated attending, “but I felt there were some specific things that I needed to be here for tonight, for District Two.”
