Should Town allow relic-hunting?

Blackstone officials next Monday night will be asked whether or not they want to allow metal detecting on Town property.

Members of Council appear to be torn between curiosity about what prized artifacts might lie underground and liability if relic hunters don’t properly cover their holes.

The community may never know what’s out there if metal detecting is banned, but some officials want to require that any unique artifacts foundmust remain with the Town.

Council’s Buildings & Properties Committee (Christine Hasbrouck, Eric Nash, Barbara Thompson) wrestled with the issue last Tuesday (Dec. 8th).
