Howdy, ‘Stranger’

Long-time Nottoway poll worker Sharon Caldwell was among those attending Thursday night’s Board of Supervisors meeting. She’s shown here taking a seat behind former Nottoway Electoral Board member Ralph Branch, a retired deputy sheriff who works part-time at the County Landfill, after the two exchanged greetings. Mrs. Caldwell’s decision not to wear a mask -- citing health reasons -- has been the focus of debate in Courier-Record op-eds last week by Nottoway Republican Chairman Bill Outlaw and this week by Nottoway Democratic Chairman Thomas Crews. Mrs. Caldwell was in attendance Thursday to hear a report on possibly moving the Voter Registrar’s Office back to the courthouse complex. Branch was in the audience to hear Landfill Supervisor Gary Easter’s presentation on the benefits of a County-owned landfill.
