JURY INDICTS EX-CANDIDATE

Residency was questioned in last year’s Mayor’s race

A former candidate for Mayor of Burkeville -- and long-time community volunteer -- has been arrested on a felony count of election fraud.

Tommy Ray Goin, 54, appeared Monday morning for an arraignment in Nottoway Circuit Court. Attorney Preston Williams was appointed to represent him.

Goin, who is free on his recognizance, is charged with Making a False Statement on a Required Form. The alleged offense date was January 16th of last year.

The true bill was returned Tuesday, Jan. 5th by a Nottoway County grand jury. The case will be set for trial at the next docket call on March 2nd. Goin turned himself in at the Sheriff’s Office shortly after 1:00 p.m. Sunday.
