The Nottoway School Board’s attorney says the Board didn’t act improperly when it expelled a student -- for 365 days -- for bringing over-the-counter and prescription pills to school, and then two months later only suspended another student -- for 45 days -- for possession and use of an illegal substance.

School Board Chair Jackie Hawkes waited until the end of Thursday night’s meeting to read aloud a letter from School Board legal counsel, R. Craig Woods of McGuireWoods.

The School Board’s last official gathering of 2019 ended the way several sessions did earlier this year -- with apparent hard personal feelings, unresolved issues, and uncertainty about the next meeting.
