MANAGER UNSCATHED AFTER SESSION

FASTC sales pitch in Amelia discussed behind closed doors

If Blackstone’s Town Manager received a slap on the wrist behind closed doors, Council didn’t leave any visible marks.

Over the mayor’s objection, Blackstone officials went into executive session last Wednesday (Oct. 7th) to discuss revelations that Town Manager Philip Vannoorbeeck recently pitched a proposed 107-unit housing project -- in Amelia County -- aimed at accommodating instructors of the Foreign Affairs Security Training Center (FASTC) at Fort Pickett.

Councilman Lonnie Morgan asked to discuss the matter behind closed doors because it involves a Town employee.

Mayor Billy Coleburn said he didn’t believe closed session was necessary because the manager’s presentation to the Amelia Planning Commission was made in a public setting and was reported in the Sept. 30th edition of the Amelia Bulletin Monitor. It was also reported in last week’s Courier-Record.
