Board agreed--after adjournment--to pay fine

Supervisor says, ‘No cover-up!’

Nottoway officials insist there was no attempt to conceal the fact that the County recently had to pay $2,000 in fines for several violations of State Code at the animal shelter.

“There was NO COVERUP!” Supervisor Sherman Vaughn declared Thursday, reading a prepared statement addressing last week’s Courier- Record lead story.

Supervisors spent more time Thursday responding to the newspaper article, “County Cover-Up?”, than the stated purpose of the special meeting: to begin the process of filling the District Five seat vacated by the death of Clarence Simpson (See “Officials Silent,” at right).
