Police car totalled, no charges filed

A local educator and her 11-year-old daughter escaped serious injury last Wednesday morning (Nov. 13th) after the car she was driving was rear-ended by a Blackstone police officer. The crash remains under investigation and, as of presstime yesterday (Tuesday), no charges had been filed. The two-vehicle crash occurred shortly before 10:00 a.m. at the intersection of Old Nottoway Road (Business 460) and Piney Green Road (Rt. 611) east of Blackstone. Kenston Forest teacher Dawn Wilhelm, 50, of Crewe, and daughter, Ryan, were traveling east (toward Blackstone) in a 2018 Honda Pilot. State Police said Mrs. Wilhelm was slowing down for a vehicle that was turning left onto Piney Green ahead of her when her vehicle was struck from behind by a Town of Blackstone Police 2012 Dodge Charger driven by officer Jeremy Ruppert, 27, of Dinwiddie. Mrs. Wilhelm and daughter were wearing their seatbelts. They were checked-out at the scene by fire and rescue personnel and were not transported. They were, however, transported later that day by private vehicle to a Richmond hospital for further evaluation.
