Pettis upset with Board, abandons his proposal

Plans by Nottoway School Board member Clive Pettis to hold and supervise week-end open gyms have run into a stifling, full-court defense, and a frustrated Pettis is walking off the court in protest.

After a half hour of contentious debate -- most of it with Pettis expressing frustration, disbelief, and disappointment in his colleagues -- the former Nottoway Cougar and James Madison University football stand-out dropped his proposal.

In basketball terms, Pettis described Friday night’s meeting as another case of four-onone and a missed lay-up for the division.

“You all are selling, but I’m not buying!” Pettis declared. “You don’t care about the kids that much. I’m gonna leave it alone. This should NOT take an act of Congress to pass. Anything I bring to this Board, it’s always a hassle.”
