State takes lead role in Crewe case
State Police say the death of a man, whose body was discovered last week in Crewe, is now being investigated as a homicide.
Crewe Police were called at 4:48 p.m. last Tuesday afternoon, July 2nd, to an alley in the 200 block of Guy Avenue, where 44-year-old Andrew Scott “Scotty” Newton of Chase City was discovered. The initial report was a subject “DOA (Dead On Arrival)” found under a car.
“This doesn’t look like a normal DOA,” one officer said over the radio after arriving on the scene.
Chief of Police Scott Dixon said the victim “had suffered traumatic injuries, and that’s why he was sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office -- to determine cause of death.”
