STILL EATING OUT
Despite the ongoing pandemic that has closed some Blackstone restaurants and limited others to only takeout service, the Town of Blackstone’s meals tax collections remain relatively strong.
According to figures obtained Monday from Town Treasurer Brittany Harris, Blackstone during the month of April collected $47,472 in meals tax proceeds. Taking that figure and dividing it by 0.065 (the Town’s meals tax rate is 6.5%) results in a prepared food sales total of $734,553.
That’s down about 6% from $50,752 collected in April 2019, which resulted from $780,800 in prepared food sales.
Five establishments are still behind submitting their monthly meals tax forms and proceeds, Treasurer Harris noted.
