President rolls in Nottoway but national race uncertain; Armory referendum wins support; Spanberger-Freitas race too close to call

President Donald Trump beat Democrat Joe Biden by 1,056 votes in Nottoway County on Tuesday, but the race nationwide was too close to call at Courier-Record presstime at 11:00 p.m.

Trump’s 15-point margin here Tuesday was even greater than his 883-vote victory (3,712-2,829) in 2016 over Democrat Hillary Clinton.

Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger (D) lost Nottoway by 724 votes Tuesday to challenger Nick Freitas. That gap here was greater than her 2018 Nottoway deficit of 461 votes to Congressman Dave Brat (R), whom she defeated that year. The Freitas-Spanberger race was too close to call at presstime.
