What It Will Look Like

Zachary Whitlow, Executive Director of Downtown Blackstone, Inc. (DBI), Monday night released this drawing of mural that will be displayed downtown on northern side of Hawthorne & Hawthorne law building beside the Town Square. The mural will measure 32 ft. wide and 17 ft. tall., will include seals for the Town and nearby Fort Pickett, and will be installed by Joe Giles Signs in Farmville, which completed that town’s mural promoting Longwood and Hampden-Sydney College. Whitlow calls the estimated $5,000 mural “one of many components to the overall revitalization of the Town Square. Overall, this project will probably be the biggest visual contribution to the Historic Business District in many years from DBI. All other improvements (benches, picnic tables, planters, trash receptacles) will be secured through the $5,000 grant that we received from the state Dept. of Housing & Community Development (DHCD).” DBI’s Design Committee had considered using the Town slogan, “Come Share Our Pride.” Whitlow says volunteers chose “Shop. Eat. Explore.” because that phrase matches wording on the Town’s two promotional billboards on U. S. 460 “and helps reinforce the branding/marketing initiative for Blackstone.”
