Despite the ongoing pandemic that has closed some Blackstone restaurants and limited others to only takeout service, the Town of Blackstone’s meals tax collections remain relatively strong.
Town Council’s Finance Committee is considering a recommendation to raise monthly garbage fees from $15.00 to $17.00 for residential customers and $20.00 to $22.00 per month for commercial customers.
The Blackstone community met and far surpassed a local goal of matching a $2,500 pledge offered to the local ministerial association’s organization, HELP (Helping Every Life Prosper).
Awaiting Its Rightful Place
Not many towns can say they’ve had a new business open during the COVID pandemic, and another new venture is planned in Blackstone as well. Jamie Arthur’s “The Gun Site” opened Friday on Church Street, and brothers Lance and Aaron Dorin’s planned “Dogged Days Distillery” advanced Monday night through the Planning Commission. Town Council will get final say on May 18th. Some product samples might help the meeting move along. Who knows? Maybe “Blackstone VA Vodka” will keep the COVID away.
