James Monroe Jones, Jr. (“Jimmie”), 96, of Crewe, passed away Thursday, January 24, 2019.

He was a son of the late James Monroe & Rob Nicholson Jones. Jimmie was also preceded in death by his wonderful loving wife, Agnes Stuart Manson Jones.

Jimmie was so proud of his four grandsons, who also survive him: James Monroe Jones IV (Rachael) of Richmond, Ryan Arthur Jones of Midlothian, Christopher Benjamin Jones of St. Paul, MN, & Thomas Edward Jones of Richmond.

Jimmie was active in countless organizations. He was a member of Pryor Memorial Presbyterian Church, having served as Deacon and Elder for many decades, and in many other capacities. He was a Director on the original board of Southside Virginia Community College, and a member of Crewe Town Council. He was a long time director of the local Board of Virginia National Bank and its subsequent name changes, and a past President and long-time member of the Crewe Kiwanis Club serving in many capacities.

Jimmie had a love for golf and was a member of Crewe Country Club. He was head of the Crewe Industrial Development Authority and was instrumental in securing the then Holly Farms Plant, (now Tyson Foods) near Crewe.

Jimmie was a superb, ethical, and moral businessman, who became President of Jones and Company Insurance in 1957, following the passing of his father. The agency was as old as the Town of Crewe, dating back to 1888.

Our dad and granddad was a huge man of faith & dignity, He loved his beloved Crewe so very much and served his Lord, family, and town, and countless people in need.

He was a shining example of America’s “Greatest Generation” and will be missed. Above all, he loved his Lord, his wife, and family.
