Robert Lawrence “Bob” Slaughter

Robert Lawrence “Bob” Slaughter, 88, of Crewe, Virginia, joined his family in Heaven on August 5, 2018. He was the husband of the late June L. Slaughter and Mary S. Slaughter; and father of the late Larry Slaughter and Jenna Slaughter. He is survived by his daughter, Susan S. McInturff; five grandchildren; and his step-children, Clint Smith, Thomas Smith (Cynthia), Hilda Jackson, and Katherine Arthur (Mike). For 12 years, Bob worked for the N&W Railroad, but law enforcement was his passion. He started as a Town of Victoria Police Officer, later worked for Nottoway and Buchanan Correctional Facilities, and retired from Red Onion State Prison as a Lieutenant. Bob faithfully served his country in the U. S. Navy and was a member of VFW Post 9954. He was a member of the Burkeville Baptist Church, past member of the Nottoway Emergency Squad, and former board member of Richlands Hospital. The family will receive friends tomorrow (Thursday, Aug. 9, 2018) from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Staples Funeral Home, Victoria. Graveside services will immediately follow in the Crewe Cemetery, Crewe, VA, at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to Nottoway Emergency Squad, Crewe, VA 23930.
