MARY ELBA FRAHER ROBERTSON June 3, 1929 to November 1, 2020

Elba Robertson died on Sunday, November 1, 2020 in Wellsprings Nursing Center located in Amelia Court House, VA.

She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Haynie Sydney Robertson, Jr., along with daughter Mary Sydney Gilley, best son-in-law Bruce, grandson Sam, son Jim Robertson, and best daughter-in-law Justine (Lexie and Will.)

Also surviving her are her sister, Jocelyn Kirk Fraher “Dot” Garber, niece Janet Taffet, nephews Chip and Mike Garber, and many other family members and dear friends.

Born in Victoria, Virginia, she grew up in and around Dundas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Carlisle Fraher and Mabel Hawthorne Fraher.

She attended Averett College for one year and then moved to Blackstone and became Dr. T. C. Bradshaw’s dental assistant. We must note that she made her mother’s first false teeth!

Elba was a devoted wife, mother, and Nana. She got up many mornings and made buttermilk biscuits from scratch and homemade hash for breakfast before Sydney and Jim caught the bus and Haynie headed off to the Fuel Company. She allowed Sydney, Jim, and Sam to make forts in the den, put on shows in the basement, and make concoctions in the kitchen. Sam even had her hunt for BigFoot!

When Elba married Haynie, she joined Crenshaw United Methodist Church, where she attended regularly and was a big part of the UMW, always cooking something or planning some kind of event. She loved her church family very much.

She was quite the hostess as well, always throwing some kind of party with delicious food and arrangements made from friends’ flowers or her own.

At this time, there will be no visitation or funeral service.

Memorial donations may be made to a children’s charity of your choice or you may donate to HELP in Blackstone, VA.
