Shot He Won’t Forget Jay Carr retrieves perfect approach shot from cup on par-5 seventh hole. He holed his second shot last Monday, April 13th, from 145 yards for double eagle.

Par-5 witnesses second double eagle in less than a month

College-bound Jay Carr of Blackstone has become the second golfer this year to record a score of double eagle “2” at Nottoway River Country Club’s par-5 seventh hole.

Carr was playing with Tyler Borum and Will Johnson last Monday afternoon, April 13th, when he holed his 9-iron approach from 145 yards.

After a big teeshot with his Callaway Rogue driver, Carr caressed a baby draw into the slope of the green just above the hole. “It spun back about four or five feet and dropped!”

Carr went on to shoot 75 for his 18-hole round.

Carr has never made a hole-in-one, but a double-eagle (three-under-par on a single hole) is much rarer. One study a few years ago estimated there are about 40,000 aces made in the U.S. every year -- compared to about only 200 double eagles.
