LADY COUGARS OUT

Nottoway High eliminated, 1-0, in state tourney

Nottoway runners reached 3rd base twice but couldn’t make it home as the Lady Cougars’ varsity softball team lost, 1-0, last Tuesday (June 4th) at Page County in the state quarterfinals.

The Lady Cougars finished their 2019 season with a 19-4 record, one of the best in program history. Last year’s squad went 19-3, and the 2008 Lady Cougars went 21-3.

“Both teams played very well,” Head Coach Travis Andrews said of last week’s Page County battle. “I thought we had a good game plan going in against their pitcher, and we were aggressive. But their defense made some really good plays.”

Pitcher McKenna Falwell struck-out five of the 23 Lady Panther batters she faced and allowed only two hits.

Page County scored its only run in the bottom of the 4th after a walked batter was advanced with a single, then a wild pitch/passed ball advanced those batters to 2nd and 3rd. A sacrifice outfield fly scored the Lady Panther from 3rd base.
