Nottoway girls advance to semis

Junior Hannah Hudson tossed a two-hitter to lead the Nottoway Lady Cougars varsity softball team to a 13-1 win over visiting Bluestone in the Conference 34 Tournament Quarterfinals last Monday (May 22nd).

Casie Garrett went 2-for-3 with a double, four RBI and two runs scored to pace Nottoway’s 13-hit attack.

After a couple of rain-outs, Nottoway finally played host to Amelia last Friday in the Conference Semifinals. The game was scoreless until the bottom of the 4th inning when the Lady Cougars scored three runs before putting it away with five more in the sixth, blanking the Lady Raiders, 8-0.

“Amelia came to play hard and we relied on our short game (bunts and grounders) to get on the scoreboard,” stated Nottoway head coach Travis Andrews. “Once we grabbed a 3-0 lead, our girls relaxed and rushed the ball late. Kolby Abel made a great, over-the-shoulder catch in rightfield to help keep the game scoreless in the third.”
