The Rarest Shot In Golf
Senior golfer Billy Armes holed his 178-yard second shot last Friday afternoon at Nottoway River Country Club’s par-5 seventh hole for a rare double-eagle.
It’s believed to be only the third recorded “2” on the 460- yard par-5 in club history.
Friday’s conditions were very windy, but that didn’t stop Armes, whose well-struck 3-wood cleared the water hazard, raced up the hill guarding the green, rolled onto the putting surface, and disappeared into the cup.
The pin Friday was tucked on the far right corner of the treacherous green, making Armes’ shot even more impressive. Armes was playing in a fivesome with Ricky Barksdale, Tom “Bones” Cromer (who joyfully pointed out afterwards that it was he who gave Armes the yardage), Keith Green, and Randy Townsend.
