CHARGES ALLEGE THREAT, HARASSMENT AGAINST BANK
A New York City man, whom local police say is employed by NYPD, was arrested in downtown Blackstone last week after allegedly making threats and harassing various employees of Citizens Bank & Trust Company.
Blackstone Lt. Tony Mayton identifies the suspect as 55-year-old Kenneth Woodson of the Big Apple. He was arrested without incident last Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 15th, outside the bank’s drive-thru branch on North Main Street.
It’s an unusual case because, according to sources, Woodson has no known family or other connections to the community or bank.
According to court records, Woodson is charged with one felony — Threatening to Extort Money — which allegedly occurred Feb. 3rd.
He’s facing five misdemeanor charges of Harassment by Computer. Those alleged offenses occurred Feb. 3rd, July 28th, Aug. 5th, Aug. 6th, and Sept. 26th.
He’s also facing 13 misdemeanor charges of Annoying Phone Calls. Those alleged offenses occurred March 7th, April 21st, July 7th, July 11th, July 15th (twice), July 21st, July 28th, Aug. 4th, Aug. 7th, Aug. 14th, Aug 21st, and Sept. 2nd.
Lt. Mayton said a series of events began unfolding in February and that Detective Jason Robertson began working with a variety of agencies — both in-state and out-of-state.
Lt. Mayton said Det. Robertson was able to obtain warrants on Woodson, and then authorities learned last Wednesday that Woodson was on his way to Blackstone in an apparent attempt to meet with bank staff.
CB&T underwent special security measures to ensure safety of staff and customers while branches and numerous officers were on high alert.
Lt. Mayton said officers spotted Woodson at about 2:00 p.m. and took him into custody before he made it into the bank. Police say he was unarmed.
Woodson was taken to Piedmont
Regional Jail in Farmville, where he remains held without bond. Efforts to arraign Woodson, who was said to be irate in court, were unsuccessful last Friday, Oct. 17th.
That proceeding has been postponed to next Wednesday, Oct. 29th at 10:30 a.m. in Nottoway General District Court.
That appearance also is slated for an opportunity for Woodson to retain private legal counsel or have a public defender appointed.
Mayton said he’s not sure what position Woodson holds with NYPD, but he’s not believed to be a sworn officer.
