County man charged in Fairfax

A Nottoway County man, who was wanted in Fairfax County and recently was banned from a Blackstone convenience store, made the mistake of returning to the business on Christmas Eve.

Blackstone Police identify the suspect as Malik Ekhlas Azhari, 21, of Poplar Lawn Road, Blackstone.

According to Lt. Tony Mayton, it was around 12:30 p.m. on Dec. 24th when Officers Deven Baugus and Jonathan Marlow were called to ZA Blackstone on Church Street across from the fire station.

Mayton said the suspect had entered the store despite having been told to not come back after a previous larceny that had occurred about a week earlier.

Mayton said the clerk on Dec. 24th was able to provide a description and license plate of the vehicle along with the suspect’s first and last name.

Azhari wasn’t on the premises when officers arrived but later was stopped by Officer Baugus and arrested on an outstanding warrant in Fairfax County.

Online court records list that charge as felonious Bomb Threat by Person over 18 Years of Age and the offense date as Dec. 18th. Mayton said Azhari also was charged with Trespassing and Assault stemming from an alleged incident inside the store and held without bond. His arraingment on the Blackstone charges is set for Friday, Jan. 2nd in Nottoway General District Court. His hearing on the Fairfax charge is set for March 23rd in Fairfax.
