Blackstone’s former Fire Chief was honored during the department’s annual banquet for leading the department for 10 years.
Dion Tomer, who served as Chief from Oct. 2014 through January 2025 — and who is known for his professionalism and calm manner under pressure — was presented a commemorative ax for his decade as Chief during the annual awards dinner held Dec. 13th at the Pickett Officers Club.
Tomer was praised by current Chief Zac Beares for “taking this department to heights where it has never been before. Technological advancements in all areas of operation, the outfitting of technology in the building and the apparatus, has made our day-to-day operations so much smoother.”
Beares said Tomer continues to remain very active with the department. “Remaining on the radio committee with the County, serving on the apparatus committee and still managing the sign out front, he continues to contribute on vital functions. During his tenure as Chief, Dion managed several working incidents and did so in his known calm demeanor. Dion has been a role model to so many of us and continues to be there for all of us when we have a question.”
