A musician who grewup in Blackstone is bringing home a Grammy Award — an accomplishment believed to be a first for Nottoway County.

Matthew Alexander Bagley, who performs as “Alexander Mack,” was nominated in the category of Best Spoken Word Poetry Album. Bagley produced “Words for Days, Vol. 1,” by artist Mad Skills. The album prevailed Sunday, Feb. 1st over four other nominees.

Released in August 2025, the album is a collection of tracks that each correspond to a day of the week featuring guest artists, including Estelle, Gavin Williams, and B-Lovee.

Bagley is a 2011 graduate of Nottoway High School and 2015 graduate of Radford University. The son of Rev. Raleigh & Peaches Bagley of Blackstone, Bagley is a singer, rapper, and producer.

Bagley resides in Richmond, “where I make most of my records in my home studio,” he told the Courier-Record after being nominated last November.

Sunday night’s starstudded awards ceremony was held at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, CA.

Winners were determined by the Recording Academy’s Voting Members — a peer group composed of music creators, including artists, songwriters, producers, engineers, and more.
