Students at Crewe Primary School were ‘blown away’ by teacher performances in a recent bubble-blowing contest.
The event coincided with National Chewing Gum Day (Tuesday, Sept. 30th), and all faculty and staff were invited to participate. The challenge was issued by school secretary Kellie Dalton, who allowed each participant two pieces of “Hubba Bubba” gum — one for practicing and the other for competition.
Second grade teacher Gabi Gil (upper right), a proud 2013 graduate of Nottoway High, was declared 2025 Champion. Asked how she learned to blow such large bubbles, she replied, “All those years sneaking gum in school paid-off.”
Others making impressive efforts included Tori Swank (upper left), who works in Crewe Primary’s Early Childhood program. She was a long-term substitute last year and earned a full-time position this year, said principal Lloyd Page. Another fierce bubble blower was PE teacher Sam Williams (lower left). Principal Page joked that Williams “may or may not have been disqualified for his illegal use of his bubblegum stash in his office.” That ruling likely didn’t upset Williams, who tied the knot this past Saturday. A Randolph-Henry graduate, Williams came to Crewe Primary from Prince Edward and is in his second year at CPS.
