TUNSTALL AVE. DOG EXPOSED, STRICKEN

Arrests of local residents alleged to be possessing and in some cases dealing methamphetamine, or “meth,” continue to rise here as three more residents were charged in past week with crimes related to the potent, highly addictive, and dangerous stimulant.

An unpleasant and near tragic ‘first’ for Blackstone occurred when a Tunstall Avenue woman’s dog became ill and was taken to a veterinary office, where its blood tested positive for the illegal drug, according to Lt. Tony Mayton.

Detective Jason Robertson received a report from Nottoway Animal Control and obtained a search warrant for the owner’s residence last Tuesday afternoon, March 17th, at 4:54 p.m.

According to Lt. Tony Mayton, the dog’s owner, 48-yearold Christal Gail Sheldon, was arrested and charged with four felony counts of Possession of a Schedule I/II Drug and Animal Cruelty, a misdemeanor.

Mayton reported that the dog, a Chihuahua named “Lilly,” is “doing just fine after being treated.” Ms. Sheldon was taken to Piedmont Regional Jail in Farmville.

Lt. Maytons said that “Lilly” was released to the defendan’t mother and that police aren’t certain “how meth got into the dog’s system.”

This past Saturday — in what police say is an unrelated case — police at approximately 8:00 a.m. raided a 5th Street apartment — located between Lunenburg and Academy Avenues — kicking open the door and executing a search warrant. Mayton said two arrests were made in Apt. C at 304 5th Street.

According to Mayton, 46-year-old Buck Edward Joy was arrested and charged with Sell, Give, or Distribute a Sch. I/II Drug (meth). Mayton said Joy also had an outstanding warrant from Nottoway Sher- riff ’s Office for Felony Probation Violation. Joy was transported to Piedmont Regional Jail in Farmville and is scheduled to be arraigned this morning (Wednesday) in Nottoway General District Court.

The female resident of the apartment, 41-year-old Becky Lea Thompson, was charged with Possession of a Schedule I/II Drug (Meth).

Mayton said the 5th Street warrant and arrests stemmed from an ongoing drug investigation. Ms. Thompson is scheduled to be arraigned today in General District Court. She’s being defended by attorney Gordon Peters of Lynchburg.
