Buddy Hyde, Nottoway County’s Director of Emergency Services, provided these photos from the Monday, Feb. 9th fire that destroyed the home of Tyler & Taylor Procise at 102 Brunswick Avenue.
Hyde said top photo shows the value of Blackstone’s ladder truck extension and horizontal reach. Truck was positioned on Church Street and still enabled volunteers to fight fire from above roof top of two-story, 1920 home.
While the “aerial” device can send firefighters 100 ft. above the ground, it’s the horizontal reach that is more frequently needed, said Hyde. Blackstone’s $1.8 million, 2023 Pierce truck, “Tower 6,” was put into service in June 2024.
