Retired educators enjoy food and fellowship

The Virginia Retired Teachers Association (VRTA) District D Membership Meeting was hosted last Monday, March 9th by the Lunenburg-Nottoway RTA at Peoples Community Center in Victoria.

Local members brightly adorned the environment with their theme “School Days.” Victoria Mayor Allen Smith welcomed everyone and shared some of his school days experiences which led to a very successful career.

Dr. Sharon Stanislas, Superintendent of Lunenburg County Public Schools (LCPS), greeted the retired educators, highlighted the status of LCPS, and shared Virginia’s updated educational requirements.

After a delightful and entertaining performance by Central High School’s Jazz Ensemble, retirees enjoyed a delicious catered meal. The March 9th meeting included input representation from the following encompassed VRTA District D counties: Amelia, Buckingham, Cumberland, Prince Edward, Dinwiddie, Lunenburg, Nottoway, Mecklenburg, Brunswick, Petersburg/Prince George, Sussex, Southampton, Franklin, and Greensville.

LNRTA members were presented special gift bags by District President, Mrs. Ora Briggs, for hosting. The meeting concluded with distribution of door prizes and gift bags for everyone donated by the LNRTA members, local banks, and other businesses.
