Preparations continue at Nottoway High School for Military Appreciation Night, set for Thursday, Sept. 11th — the 24th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks — when the varsity Cougar football team hosts Amelia.
All active and retired military personnel will be admitted free to the Sept. 11th home game by presenting at the gate either their Active Duty Card, VFW Card, American Legion Card, or a Copy of their DD214.
Pre-game festivities will begin at approximately 6:40 p.m. with a special announcement.
Nottoway High School’s JROTC cadets will present colors at 6:50 p.m., and the Marching Cougar Band will perform the National Anthem.
Immediately afterwards, a military flyover of an Air National Guard helicopter will follow.
Nottoway High Athletic Director, Jesse Chropka, says the Cougar football team that night will be running out of a tunnel and through a break-away banner provided by the Armed Services.
Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m. Service booths and tents will be set-up inside the stadium.
Throughout the game, each branch of the military will be recognized by playing their songs and asking for veterans or current armed forces members to stand and be recognized.
NJROT Commander, Senior Chief David Perrin, is looking for Nottoway residents to submit names of individuals who served in the Armed Forces and lost their lives. Their names will be read aloud at the beginning during pre-game events by the Public Announcer. Submissions can be made to: perrin.david@nottowayschools.org.
