A Nottoway County drug defendant was sentenced last Wednesday in federal court to 15 years in prison for several drug and firearms charges.

Tyrone Lamont Fowlkes, 42, of both Blackstone and Crewe, was wanted on drug charges in August 2024 when he was arrested with more drugs.

He was taken into custody Aug. 9th, 2024 on Rt. 460 west in Nottoway County near the Prince Edward Line. A search of the Chevy Suburban he was driving yielded numerous drugs, paraphernalia, and three firearms, resulting in several charges.

It was a repeat of sorts from an incident earlier in the year.

In Feb. 2024, Fowlkes led police on an 80 mph chase and crashed shortly after 3:00 a.m. on the morning of Wednesday, February 7th on Rocky Ford Road south of Crewe.

A search of Fowlkes’ vehicle after that February crash resulted in the seizure of drugs, crash, and weapons — and 16 charges. Fowlkes was flown by MedFlight to a Richmond hospital, where he was later released without notification and had been a “sought-after fugitive since.”

When Jones was arrested in Aug. 2024, deputy sheriffs had received information that Fowlkes was in the county and Sgt. Ty Moore — the same deputy who initiated the February 2024 pursuit — observed Fowlkes in Burkeville and followed him west on 460 while more units arrived for back-up.

It was Sgt. Moore who in Feb. 2024 approached a vehicle parked at the old Evans Grocery property east of Crewe and tapped on the window. Fowlkes then sped off, and Moore initiated the pursuit that led to Fowlkes crashing and being arrested the first time.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Leanne Watrous told the Courier Record this week that Fowlkes’ case went federal. Published reports last week stated that when Fowlkes was arrested in Feb. 2024, authorities seized three firearms (one of which was suspected to have been stolen), three digital scales, $948.84, 198 grams of cocaine, four methamphetamine pills, 60 Oxycodone pills and 455 grams of marijuana. The Department of Justice (DOJ) said one of the firearms is believed to have been stolen.

When Fowlkes was arrested in Aug. 2024, according to ABC8 News, police seized three firearms, a large-capacity magazine, two digital scales, $1,260, 117 grams of cocaine, 20 grams of methamphetamine, 24 Oxycodone pills, and 321 grams of marijuana.

Court records show Fowlkes with prior convictions for Distributing Cocaine in both 2008 and 2011, as well as Possessing with Intent to Distribute Marijuana in 2021.
