Church Street man is arrested

A Church Street man is facing two felony charges and a misdemeanor after a weekend incident here.

Lt. Tony Mayton said officers responded at 1:53 a.m. Sunday, March 15th to the 700 block of Fourth Street, in reference to a reported assault that allegedly occurred in the 800 block of Church Street.

Mayton said investigation led to the arrest of 20-year-old Patrick J. Collins of the 800 block of Church Street. Collins has been charged with Strangulation, Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, and misdemeanor Assault. Online court records list the offense dates as Saturday, March 14th, and the complainant as a local female.

In other police news, Lt. Mayton reports the arrest Saturday, March 14th of 23-year-old Jameil Malk Shapazz Coleman of Burkeville for Failing to Comply with a Court Order. Mayton said Cpl. Jeremy Ruppert made the arrest after stopping a vehicle for traveling 47 mph in a 35 mph zone on Courthouse Road near corporate limits. Online court records also show that Coleman was charged with Drinking while Driving (Open Container) and Violating Provisions of a Learner’s Permit.

He’s also listed as “Past Due” for $268.50 in court costs after a conviction last year of Pointing/Brandishing a Firearm.

A court appearance for Coleman is set for May 27th in Nottoway General District Court.
