Nottoway County Public Schools has a newly-formed Disciplinary Committee, which is winning praise from the Division Superintedent.
Dr. Tameshia Grimes reported Thursday night that the panel has held two meetings and has spent time undergoing “serious consideration” of the Code of Student Conduct.
Dr. Grimes said of a recent meeting, “The discussion was believed to be very honest. People spoke openly about their experiences — and experiences they heard about.”
Dr. Grimes added that after the committee’s next meeting, it will present its recommendations at the School Board’s June 12th meeting for the Board consider and/or implement.
One complaint made by some school officials — as well as parents — is that in many cases, a student who must physically defend himself or herself from an aggressor receives the same punishment as the student who “started it.”
