Renovation Complete Walmart in Blackstone held a Grand Re-Opening last Friday, June 27th, celebrating its $2.9 million renovation and remodeling. Blackstone Mayor Lafayette Dickens cut the ribbon and was joined by a number of associates, executives, and invited guests. The supercenter made $1,000 donations each to Blackstone Vol. Fire Dept., Blackstone Police Department, the Blackstone Chamber of Commerce, and the Town of Blackstone.

The supercenter made $1,000 donations each to Blackstone Vol. Fire Dept., Blackstone Police Department, the Blackstone Chamber of Commerce, and the Town of Blackstone.

Blackstone Mayor Lafayette Dickens cut his first ribbon since taking office June 6th — at Walmart’s grand re-opening last Friday, June 27th.

Seven associates, including Lisa Mayton (right) were recognized for having worked at the local supercenter since it opened here July 15, 1998. Others are: John Branch, Deborah Foster, Mildred Hawthorne, Terrilyn Hill, Janice Johnson, and Doreen Jones. The store today employs 151 associates. Shown beside Mayor Dickens are new store manager Trevor Deacon (blue suit). To left of Deacon is Market Manager Jade White. Among the store’s new features is a community-inspired mural (inset) by Virginia artist Layton Scarbrough of Culpeper.
