A Nottoway County man is facing several charges after an incident that began with speeding and then turned into a “slow speed pursuit” that covered several miles along rural back roads.
Sheriff Robert Jones identifies the suspect as 42-year-old Timothy Arelious Brite of Crewe.
Jones said the incident began last Wednesday night, Feb, 25th, at 11:14 p.m. when a vehicle entered radar at 75 mph in a 55 zone on The Falls Road (Rt. 49 South) near West Courthouse Road.
Jones said the vehicle refused to stop, “resulting in a low speed pursuit” with speeds at times in the 10-20 mph range.
Jones said the driver traveled down West Courthouse Road, Hungarytown Road, and Flat Rock Road before stopping at a residence on Robertson Road west of Blackstone. There were reports during the pursuit that officers were concerned about safety of others because the vehicle — even at slow speeds — was swerving and “all over the road.”
Jones said Brite is charged with:
•Failing to stop after receiving visible and audible signal from law enforcement;
•Reckless Driving;
•Consuming an alcoholic beverage while driving;
•Driving while under the influence;
•Refusal to submit to breath test;
•Reckless Drive/Speeding 75 mph/55 mph zone;
Brite was ordered held without bond. A trial date for the most of the misdemeanor charges is set for May 20th in Nottoway General District Court. Online court records show Brite has no prior convictions or charges in Nottoway.
