More Solar Battles Loom

Attorney Robert Hawthorne, Jr. (center) of Lunenburg is shown here at Nottoway Board of Supervisors’ Sept. 18th meeting. He was among those listening closely as the Board debated — and eventually approved — its first solar farm: a 40-acre site with 20 acres under panel on 316 acres owned by Shawn & Katherine Haney of Inverness Road, Burkeville. Hawthorne has been outspoken in his support for land owners to have solar sites with reasonable restrictions. Also shown from left are citizen Clyde Rothgeb, Crewe Fire Chief Joey Schnepf, Emergency Services Coordinator Buddy Hyde, and Blackstone Chamber of Commerce Chairman Chris Page, who serves on Blackstone Town Council. Hawthorne is representing landowner Dennis Tatum in Tatum’s proposed large solar farm for Rocky Ford Road and other nearby areas. Page said solar farms can provide the County needed revenue and avoid future tax increases, which he said are beginning to have an impact on businesses.
