MOVE’EM & RECORD’EM

Transparency sought by school rep.

A Nottoway School Board member, who has previously called for the governing body to be more open, is asking colleagues to quit holding work sessions at the School Board office, where they aren’t recorded on video for citizens to watch from home.

District 5 rep Michele Duncan offered that suggestion during the Board’s Jan. 8th meeting, saying work sessions should be held where regular meetings are — the high school mini-auditorium. That venue allows for meetings to be broadcast live on YouTube and also recorded for future viewing — just as the Board of Supervisors does.

Ms. Duncan said that while citizens are welcomed to attend work sessions in the School Board conference room, “Some people are unable to come and yet they’re still interested.” She said holding all work sessions in the mini-auditiorium would be a “move of transparency.”

No colleagues or staff responded to her request.
